Volunteerism

Whether in a neighborhood or nationwide, social mobilization is critical to promoting improvements in the society. How to engage people so that they are involved in the transformation of public education and, consequently, of society as a whole?

  • Democracy presupposes an active participation of the people in building solutions that are of interest to the community and promote social development.

 

The context

The joint action of the residents of a given region in favor of local development, taking into account the needs and knowledge of each individual, is one of the key foundations for social transformation. However, according to the Opinião do Brasileiro sobre o Voluntariado [The Opinion of Brazilians on Volunteering] survey (2016), 72% of Brazilians stated that they have never undertaken voluntary activities. Also, according to the 2018 World Giving Index report, out of 146 countries surveyed, Brazil ranks only 122nd among those where there are more people engaged in volunteerism.

  • We believe that encouraging Itaú employees and their contact networks to engage in volunteer work is a potential way to contribute to greater social mobilization nationwide.

 

Purpose

The purpose of the Volunteer program is to lay conditions that favor the social participation of employees by offering opportunities for social participation and encouraging voluntary work.

 

Program Description

The Mobiliza Itaú [Mobilize Itaú] Committees currently make up the main strategy for disseminating the importance of volunteering to employees. Organized by administrative hubs or cities, these groups bring to the knowledge of their teams the initiatives available and encourage voluntary work across the country in institutional alignment with the causes taken up by Itaú Social.

The Itaú employees interested in becoming involved in volunteering initiatives can also count on the support of the Itaú Social staff to make their proposals feasible. They are given opportunities to take part in initiatives developed by Itaú Social itself – such as reading mediation and financial education. In addition, employees are encouraged to propose initiatives spontaneously on different topics.

The Rede de Ações Sociais Itaú [Network of Itaú Social Initiatives] is an important tool for the articulation of volunteers. The online platform brings together many opportunities for engagement, as well as discussion forums and materials on volunteering. It is through it that employees can publicize the initiatives they undertake and become acquainted with engagement opportunities in their regions.
